Elmer and Agnes
Excerpt from Annie Geurinks writing
The Geurinks in Marathon County.

Elmer was the first in the family to marry one other than of Dutch descent. Agnes Ferries lived a few miles down Highway N, daughter of a Scotsman. Her mother was German and of the Catholic faith. Agnes chose to become a member of the Forestville Church with Elmer for their lifetime, and Elmer served terms there as Deacon and Trustee. Agnes worked in a Wausau factory prior to their marriage. She was very slender and had wavy dark hair and beautiful blue eyes. Their wedding took place at the Ferries home in April, 1928. They too settled into farming, purchasing acres in the Town of Ringle with a wood frame barn and log house, previously owned by Charley and Frances Holster which was the birthplace of Annie Holster Geurink. After Jesse moved out west and that farm was vacant, Elmer and Agnes moved there and with Henry raised big potato crops to which the land was suited. Returning to their own farm a few years later, the log house was replaced by a neat wood frame bungalow and when the barn burned it too was replaced at a barn raising in 1938. Elmer and Agnes had one of the neatest farms in the township. Roger and Karen are their children. Elmer and Agnes also moved to Birnamwood when they sold their farm and retired, Elmer died a few years later and at this writing at age 82, Agnes still lives in their home, doing well after a painful summer in 1987 resulting in a knee replacement surgery. ”
