Forestville Church Scene of Wedding - taken from local newspaper: In a pretty church ceremony,
accented by candle-light, solemnized in Forestville Reformed Church town of Easton, last night at 8 o’clock by the Rev. Thomas k Laman, Miss Ruth Herrema, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Herrema, Ringle, exchanged nuptial vows with Victor TenHaken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester TenHaken, town of Easton.
Palms banking the altar formed a background for large baskets of red roses, bridal wreath and yellow iris and long white tapers set in candelabra. Mrs. Floyd Geurink, presiding at the organ, played favorite numbers of the bride as guests were assembling, concluding with the wedding march from Lohengrin to announce the processional. The musical program also included the solo, “Because,” sung by Andrew P. Hettinga, and “The Lord’s Prayer,“ sung by Miss Betty Jane Herrema, this city, who also served as her sister’s maid of honor, others in the bridal party were the bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy TenHaken, sister of the bridegroom, and his cousin, Miss LaVeme Geurink; James Frohman, Birnamwood, who served as best man, and Richard Herrema Jr., brother of the bride and Kenneth Hettinga, her cousin as groomsmen.
The bride’s gown of heavy white slipper satin was designed with sweetheart neckline, leg-of-mutton
sleeves and a full shirred entrained skirt attached to a scalloped bodice. Her long veil of rayon net, edged with Alencon type lace, with a wide satin ruflle bordering the train, was caught to a heart-shaped headband of net with small lace ruBles and tiny satin bows. The entire ensemble was made by her mother.
She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses entwined in a white satin bow.
In accordance with tradition, the bride, who was presented in marriage by her father, wore a pair of
rhinestone earrings for ‘something old’; a rhinestone necklace and bracelet, which were her wedding gift from the bridegroom for ‘something new’; a dainty white linen handkerchief with crochet trimming belonging to her sister for ‘something borrowed,’ and her sapphire birthstone ring for ‘something blue.’
The maid of honor’s floor-length gown of white marquisette over rayon taffeta featured a swirl of ruffles on the full sheer overskirt, which was attached to a wide midrift. A ninon yoke with high round neckline finished the shirred bodice. She wore a bandeau of small net calla lilies, with pearl-studded centers, to which was attached a shoulder-length veil.
The bridesmaids wore identical gowns of yellow and aqua, trimmed with piquot edged ruflling on the yokes and short, puffed sleeves. They, too, wore headbands of net lilies and all three wore pearl necklaces and earrings, which were gifts from the bride. Their bouquets of pastel flowers were tied with white satin bows.
The bride’s mother chose for the ceremony an eyelet-trimmed powder blue dress and the bridegroom’s
mother wore a dusty rose crepe ensemble. Both completed their attire with white accesories and shoulder
bouquets of yellow roses.
A reception attended by 200 guests, was held at the WWER Community Center, which was adorned
with aqua, white and yellow streamers. The bridal table was centerd with a three-tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bridal couple, and was decorated with white, aqua and yellow streamers and lighted tapers.
The out-of-town guests included Mrs. Gerritt TenHaken, Miss Elsie TenHaken, Mrs. Martha TenHaken and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Roethel and sons, Russel and Paul, Oostburg; Mr. and Mrs. Walter TenHaken and the
