Fourth Generation - Roger Arthur Geurink

24. Roger Arthur4 Geurink (Elmer3, Henry John2, Arent Jan1) was born Wausau, WI April 24, 1931.

He married Betty Jane Fremming in St. Paul’s Church Bimamwood, WI, September 22, 1951.

Fremmings, Norrie, became the bride of Roger Arthur Geurink, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Geurink, town of Ringle, Saturday evening at 6:30 o’clock in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church at Birnamwood.

During the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. R. J. Catteau, Elroy Gremier, this city, sang “Nuptial Benediction” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Earl Peterson.

The couple, following a reception at the Norrie town hall, left on a trip to an undisclosed destination and after October 4 will reside here at 1026 l/2 Harrison Boulevard. The bridegoom is employed by the Silcrest corporation and the bride in the office of the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing company.

Miss Joan Chapman Birnamwood, an intimate friend of the bride, was the maid of honor and Glenn Geurink, town of Ringle, was the best man for his cousin. Friends of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Herrema, Wausau, were the groomsman and bridesmaid while Miss Karen Geurink sister of the groom, served as the junior bridesmaid.

The bridal gown of heavy, white slipper satin had a wide panel of Chantilly lace extending from the shoulders to the hem of the skirt at the front. The bodice was completed with a mandarin collar of lace and satincovered buttons and the skirt swept into a long train. A cap of tulle and pearlized orange blossoms secured her veil of nylon net, bordered with Chantilly lace, that fell to her finger-tips. She held a cascade of pink roses, pompons and baby mums entwined with ivy.

The maid of honor and bridesmaid wore identical gowns of dusty-rose satin with the skirts accented with an overlay of net. The strapless bodices were accented with satin bolero jackets and they wore picture hats of matching rose net. They carried cascade bouquets of pink roses and white and blue pompons, tied with blue ribbons.

A baby blue dress, fashioned like those of the other aides, was worn by the junior bridesmaid. Her cascade bouquet of identical flowers was tied with dusty-rose ribbons.

The ushers were Kenneth Fraaza, Ringle, and Dale Schumacher, Oshkosh. The bride’s mother chose a black silk dress with gold accents and a corsage of pink roses and blue and white pompons. the grooms’ mother was attired in a charcoal-gray dress of crepe, accented with a corsage of pink roses and blue and white pompons.

Baskets of fall flowers decorated the church and the pews were marked with white bows inserted with winter asters.

Attending the reception was a large mrmber of guests. Supper for 300 guests was served at tables centered with bouquets of fall flowers. Lighted tapers accented the bridal table and another was centered with a cake baked and decorated by a friend of the bride’s family, Mrs. Carl Hetzel, Bimamwood.

For traveling, the bride dotted a wine suit and hat and wore the corsage from her bouquet.

Out-of-town wedding guests were Mrs. Elsie Murphy and son, Homer, Fargo, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Krasin, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Schumacher and son, Dale, and Miss Delores Ellis, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. William Schumacher, Clintonville; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Haensgen, Madison; Mrs. Lila Pickard Fond du Lac. Mrs. Ruth Kuhn and children and Mrs. Edson Spitzer, West Allis.

Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gremler, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fremming and family, Mrs. Eldon Fremming and daughter, Faye, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brandenburg,, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Treibel, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rhyner, Miss Betty Huber, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bauman, Miss Betty Sobkowiak and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bergman and daughter, Meta, all of Wausau, and many others from Ringle, Birnamwood and Norrie.

Betty was born in Nonie, WI September 14, 1931.
